Victoria’s Voice Foundation Celebrates Declining Overdose Deaths, Emphasizes Continued Education

The latest provisional data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveal a significant drop in drug overdose deaths in the United States within the 12-month period ending December 1, 2024. According to the CDC report, there were roughly 97,000 fatal overdoses in 2024—an astounding 14.5% decrease in overdose deaths and more than 16,000 lives saved compared to the year prior![i]

While this decline is a positive development, experts warn against complacency. They emphasize the need for continued focus on drug education as well as funding and healthcare programs for those struggling with substance use disorders, especially among our hardest hit communities.

It is important to recognize that prevention education and opioid overdose reversal medications like naloxone have proven highly effective in saving lives from drug misuse and overdose. This is the reason Victoria’s Voice Foundation continues to work hard to bring its impactful youth and parent education programs nationwide: Drug prevention and awareness works!
